When moving into our brand-new offices this summer, we had for the first time big spaces that we could dedicate to team meeting rooms.
We quickly faced the issue of sound reverb and decided to design some acoustic panels using our own Fab CNC to both improve acoustic and embellish our room. You'll find all instructions and G-code hereby to make them yourself, as well as the Fusion360 project if you want to make modifications.
The panels are 540x1008mm, and we made them in 30mm MDF.
First we need to clear a maximum of material using a roughing bit, to get as close as possible to the shape of the 3D waves.
We can now use a ball nose end mill to smooth out the 3D shape using a parallel operation. It is a long operation as it has to do a lot of narrow passes, but it can run pretty fast as it removes very few material thanks to the clearing operations.
Last thing to do is to cut the contour of the parts to free them from the stock panel.
Mekanika is a Belgian company based in Brussels whose ambition is to make local production more accessible thanks to a 100% open-source approach.
We design and produce high quality machines for CNC milling and screen printing, which have been recognized for their reliability and ease of use. Our tools are delivered as kits and fully documented, allowing to easily adapt them to specific needs.
